Academic Support Teaching

"As a father and an educator, I enjoyed learning with my children in a way that paced them and motivated them to be successful learners. What was important for me to pass along to them... it was imparting critical thinking skills, organization, creativity and a sense of exploration."

Steven E. Gutstein, Ph.D.(Founder of the RDI Program)

If the phrase 'my child needs help with school work' is a phrase that comes to mind, Academic Support Teaching can help you. Our Centre is not a tuition centre; instead, we get to the root of learning problems.

Our Academic Support Teachers are responsible for developing and conducting learning programmes for pre-school and primary students who have difficulties learning. Students may also have physical, sensory or emotional difficulties which impede their learning. Our Academic Support Teachers plan and design special programmes of study to meet each individual student's needs.

We test to discover weaknesses and then provide training tools to strengthen those weak skills. We work with students of all ages with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Down Syndrome, Autism, Language Delays, Global Development Delays, lack of memory, lack of focus, poor verbal skills and the lack of self-confidence that often results from these challenges. Our one-on-one trainers provide individually-tailored programmes that are focused on strengthening weak cognitive skills so that students are able to learn and think effectively.

Instruction is initially provided on a one-to-one basis and only when the child is deemed ready. Group classes (with a maximum of six children per class) will then be recommended. The children in these groups will be selected by reading/language and similar academic levels.

Academic supports are appropriate if your child struggles in any of the following areas:

  • Learning to write
  • Learning to read
  • Decoding (processing receptive information)
  • Encoding (spelling)
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Problem solving/inferences
  • Organization
  • Flexible thinking
  • Critical thinking
